Computational Scientist is a key member of a team developing and implementing unique and powerful control algorithms for a wide variety of energy applications.



  1. Contribute to improved numerical and architectural approaches for control systems. For example, contribute to the system’s:
    1. computational efficiency
    2. maintainability
    3. flexibility / extensibility
    4. reliability
  2. Work with the Engineering Team to help productize and deploy complex control algorithms.
  3. Participate in commissioning and monitoring of energy storage systems
  4. Collect and interpret field data from active energy storage systems


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Proficiency in numerical methods. Examples of numerical algorithms with which the applicant should be familiar
    1. Nonlinear regression
    2. Optimization
    3. Differentiation and integration
    4. Solving systems of equations
    5. Time discretization and simulation
    6. Interpolation
  2. Proficiency with Matlab
  3. Proficiency developing object oriented software (preferably Java 8) using test-driven development techniques
  4. Proficiency with Linux
  5. Proficiency with Eclipse or IntelliJ or similar
  6. Strong skills in physics and applied mathematics
  7. Basic knowledge of electronics and electrical governing equations
  8. Ability to work in a team-based software development environment
  9. Ability to clearly communicate results of work to peers, customers, and partners
  10. Knowledge of power transmission and distribution is a plus


  1. Master of Science degree or higher
  2. At least 2 years’ experience in software development for mathematical or scientific applications
