Overview

This position is primarily responsible for developing and executing fundamental congestion and bidding/trading strategies by performing power flow analysis, conducting research in market fundamentals and managing diversified portfolios. The Senior FTR Trader will perform and develop transmission analyses to identify short and long term congestion risks and opportunities to optimize Enel’s power trading operations. The candidate must have business knowledge covering both the theoretical and practical implications of transmission analysis and/or LMP market modeling and forecasting.

Responsibilities

• Perform transmission system studies and market simulations using power flow programs and market modeling platforms.
• Identify transmission system capabilities and limitations, determine risks and opportunities in ISO markets.
• Develop trade ideas independently and in conjunction with the trading team.
• Create and validate trading algorithms and bid files.
• Assess positions, make recommendations and execute on Financial Transmission Rights (FTR) strategies.
• Work in conjunction with energy traders on the valuation of fixed price and option trade opportunities.
• Analyze the commercial impact of generation and/or transmission projects and outages.

•  Develop and maintain relationships with ISO Market Representatives and Market Monitors.

•  Stay informed on regulatory changes on issues related to Enel’s lines of business.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Math, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Financial Engineering, Physics, Statistics, Programming, Computer Science, or related technical fields.
• A Master’s degree in a technical or quantitative field is preferred.
• In-depth market knowledge with US power markets (experience in one of the following markets: ERCOT, MISO, SPP, PJM, NYISO, ISONE, CAISO).
• 4-8 years related industry experience.
• Proven multi-tasking skills.
• Prior experience in a trading environment.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a group.
• Excellent communications, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.
• Demonstrates creativity, and independent thought when solving problems.
• Good understanding of business processes and data management.
• Builds positive relationships with internal and external groups.
• Will require full knowledge of functional responsibilities of all groups/individuals within the organization.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 3+ of work experience in the power trading industry with specific responsibilities and direct involvement with: FTR’s and Options and congestion hedging.
• In-depth transmission analysis and/or LMP market modeling and forecasting.
• Large data analytics, including power flow systems and/or production cost modeling programs.
• Experience in electricity markets with the understanding of power transmission networks.
• In depth understanding of electric power system operations and power portfolio management (including demand, generation and congestion management tools).
• Detailed knowledge of ISO market tariffs and business practices.
• In-depth understanding of the key concepts of derivatives pricing and risk management preferred.
• Skilled with applications such as Excel, SQL, Matlab, Visual Basic, C#, R, or other similar programming languages.
• Familiarity with enterprise trading and risk management systems and concepts, such as VaR.
• Strong background in statistical data modeling, numerical methods, Monte Carlo simulation, and optimization techniques.
• Ability to work independently and in diverse teams.
• Experience working with YES Energy and DayZer preferred.
