Overview

This position is primarily responsible for analyzing sales and purchases of wholesale power, transmission and financial instruments, consistent with the strategic direction of the company. You will identify sales/purchase opportunities with other utilities/organizations and/or financial institutions.  You will work on projects where analysis of situations and/or data requires review of relevant market factors and may require the exercise of judgment within defined policies and procedures to determine the most appropriate action.

Responsibilities

 

  • Responsibilities, include, but not limited to: 

    • Analyze and evaluate energy transactions to ensure that all relevant aspects including energy price, transmission, counter party and contractual terms are favorable to and consistent with company guidelines for risk management.
    • Responsible for supporting the negotiation of transactions in energy commodities, options, and other energy related products in various markets to maximize profitability and utilization of resources.
    • Collaborate with project operators and managers to develop the most efficient operating strategy
    • Support new business opportunities and Power Purchase Agreement contract review.
    • Support the implementation of contractual obligations for new and existing projects.
    • Support commercial operations of new renewable generation resources, ensuring that contractual requirements are met.
    • Ensure financial and operational compliance with project RTO/ISO obligations related to energy delivery and transmission service agreements.
    • Assess the financial/ operational impact of ISO/RTO regulatory changes to support EGPNA’s position in ISO/RTO and regulatory matters.
    • Provide Energy Market Analysis and Reporting
    • Support execution of risk management program (i.e. Energy, REC’s, Transmission, Congestion and Capacity, etc.).
    • Respond to inquiries and provides regional technical and administrative support
    • Responsible to work on problems of diverse scope, that requires analysis of data and evaluation of identifiable market factors.
    • Interact with supervisors and functional peer groups to exchange or present technical information concerning specific projects or schedules.
    • Acts as technical advisor to the group and may become actively involved in projects to meet schedules and resolve problems.

     

    OTHER DUTIES:

    • Establish and maintain professional relationships with wholesale power marketers, traders, brokers, and the financial community.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external counterparties.
    • Provide support for projects, market compliance, regulatory filings, etc.
    • Stay current on national and local market drivers for Energy and Renewable Energy Credits
    • Provide reports and create presentations providing project and financial updates as needed.

     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of related experience
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a group
  • Excellent communications, interpersonal, and organizational skills required
  • Demonstrates creativity, and independent thought when solving problems
  • Builds positive relationships with internal and external groups
  • Will require knowledge of functional responsibilities of all groups/individuals within the organization
