The intern will become part of a high performing team responsible for the operation of over 4,000 MW of renewable energy of multiple technologies, including wind, solar, and hydroelectric. The individual will be integrated into the Control Room Operations Team, working with the Manager, Control Room Operations as well as the Control Room Lead Operator and Control Room Support Specialists, to develop and design specific training modules covering electrical fundamentals, control room operations, technology specific operations, and grid operations topics. This position offers the opportunity to learn how renewable energy is operated using the latest remote operations technology and innovative control systems. The individual may participate in ad-hoc training sessions and in the delivery of training materials. The position will be exposed to internal Control Room resources as well as Subject Matter Experts in various engineering fields to develop training material, as outlined in the Control Room Qualification, Training and Assessment Program (QTAP).
Additionally, intern will participate in the Wind Turbine Reset Project, becoming an integral part of the team that develops and implements a process to monitor and operate over 2,000 wind turbines across North America from a single location. Using intuitive analytics and problem solving strategies, the team members will be attending meetings, developing work scopes, and assisting in the completion of deliverables. This opportunity will involve learning the many aspects of renewable generation, including the business, technical, contractual, economic, and operational aspects of this activity.
The intern should have an Engineering Educational background related to Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or Renewable Technologies.
Any knowledge or exposure to the following specific subject will be highly regarded: SCADA systems, Power Generation/Transmission/Distribution, Real-time generation operations, Electrical Energy Markets.
Degree area of concentration preferred: Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Engineering
