  • Overview

    Machine Learning Engineer will be a key member of a team developing and implementing unique and powerful control algorithms for a wide variety of energy applications; will specialize in developing, improving, and testing algorithms for predicting electrical power consumption and generation.

    Responsibilities

    1. Develop, simulate, test, and improve algorithms for predicting electrical load and generation.
    2. Support transfer of key software and algorithms to a production software environment (i.e. be a part-time member of a production software team)
    3. Support Sales and Marketing by performing customer-specific energy storage system simulations, documenting methods and results, and presenting to customers
    4. Participate in commissioning and monitoring of energy storage systems
    5. Collect and interpret field data from active energy storage systems
    6. If requested, present and/or publish work in various venues for example internally, to customers, to partners, and at industry events

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
    1. Proficiency in the following areas:

    a. Pattern recognition
    b. Supervised and unsupervised learning
    c. Decision trees
    d. Naïve Bayes classifier
    e. Neural networks
    f. Linear discriminant analysis

    2. Knowledge of modern digital control systems

    3. Proficiency in numerical methods such as numerical algorithms:

    a. Nonlinear regression
    b. Optimization
    c. Differentiation and integration
    d. Solving systems of equations
    e. Time discretization and simulation
    f. Interpolation

    4. Excellent Matlab skills
    5. Proficiency developing object oriented software (preferably Java 8) using test-driven development techniques
    6. Strong skills in physics and applied mathematics
    7. Basic knowledge of electronics and electrical governing equations
    8. Ability to work in a team-based software development environment
    9. A high level of analytical rigor with the ability to sift through significant amounts of information to enable the development/deployment of effective analytic solutions.
    10. If requested, present and/or publish work in various venues for example internally, to customers, to partners, and at industry events
    11. Knowledge of power transmission and distribution is a plus
    12. Ability to be flexible and adaptable

    Qualifications

    1. Master of Science degree or PhD preferred
    2. Either 2 years of coursework or 2 years of experience developing modern machine learning algorithms.
    3. Persuasive oral and written communication abilities
    4. Strong sense of purpose, urgency, ownership and responsibility
    5. Occasional travel may be required
